We are committed to stretching the more able mathematicians at Putney Park School. However, pupils of all abilities showed determination to compete and their willingness to take part is most appreciated.
This year 3554 schools entered this competition. Those who are awarded certificates are recognised as high achievers and we are proud of their achievement.
Our aim is to nurture pupils’ interest in the subject; to encourage them to learn to think independently; apply logic and critical reasoning skills to problem solving and to expose them to unfamiliar mathematical problems.
We achieved very satisfactory results this year. There are 5 certificate winners:
Darcy in year 7 is awarded a BRONZE and the BEST IN SCHOOL certificates.
Eva , Francesca, Tiffany and Micah in Year 8 are awarded the BRONZE certificate.
The Royal Institution Mathematics Masterclasses for Young People
This is a series of lectures organised by the Royal Institution of Great Britain for Year 9 pupils who have high mathematical ability. Every year we nominate pupils who are not only the best mathematicians measured by conventional assessment but also those with enquiring minds who are willing to think about the problems and to work at activities which are open-ended.
This year, the pupils who were nominated were Maddie and Flora. They both took up the offer and have greatly benefited from the experience. They subsequently achieved a National Curriculum Level 8 in their KS3 examination in mathematics. Very well done!
