2009 Magazine Report – Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award

This year for the first time we have offered the Year 10 students the opportunity to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.

Wandsworth Council has been able to offer the award scheme to the girls, particularly the Expedition, when they have to attend sessions for twelve weeks, including a trial one day trek and culminating in a weekend expedition.

14 girls completed the course:

The feedback received about the expedition has been very enthusiastic and positive. All the girls who attended felt that although it was very hard work, it was worth the effort to be able to reach the finishing line in one piece! It was also a good experience as they had to work alongside students from other schools; this gave them insight into working with others and being able to compromise and see points of view from different perspectives.

The Bronze Award will be offered to the Year 10 group (09-10) and so far we have had replies from 11 girls who wish to participate.

I am delighted with the response from all the girls. They have been enthusiastic and positive. My thanks to Mark Chapman at Wandsworth who has helped me organise the record books and expedition paperwork.
