EGYPTIAN DAY - January 15th 2009
Today we had our ‘Ancient Egyptian day. The children had to dress up as an Egyptian of their choice and have their photographs taken in costume. They danced to ‘Walk like an Egyptian’ and had to explain how they had made their costume.
The children ate Egyptian food and made their own flat bread, which tasted exceptionally good. The afternoon session was very exciting as the ‘Freshwater Theatre Company’ came into school and took the pupils back in time to Ancient Egypt where they had to solve the legend of ‘Isis and Osris’.
WAKE-UP / SHAKE-UP
Key Stage 2: aerobics sessions 3 times a week whatever the weather!
The children learn different steps to keep fit and alert then we finish the session with a cool down and a pause to think about the day ahead.
SCIENCE WEEK- 26th-30th January 2009
A very exciting week of crazy experiments by ‘just adding water’. We have some future Scientists in Year 3 !
‘I really enjoyed learning in a different way this week’ Luke.
‘I felt more confident and got better at understanding the experiments as the week went on’ Naysha.
‘I loved the whole week, especially being titled SCIENTIST OF THE WEEK’ Lily
Our Class Musician
We were extremely impressed when Lucy performed her very own song to the Lower School. Being able to sing and play the guitar is very good but writing your own songs is fantastic!
SNOW POEMS – 9th FEBRUARY 2009
The frosty weather in February inspired Year 3 to write some snow poems. This fantastic poem by Jadene was one of our favourites.
The Magical Snowflake
I saw them falling, glistening from the sky,
One fell gently into my eye.
They were soft and gentle to the touch,
How I want to hold you so much.
They fall in different shapes and sizes,
They look like little sparkling prizes.
They are small and way too cold,
But if you gather lots you can mould
a beautiful, gigantic snowflake.
THE BRITISH MUSEUM – 12th March
We had a fantastic day and saw so many things that we were all exhausted! Our favourite section was the one filled with Greek pots ,we were sure that some of then talked to us and told us ancient Greek myths!
BOOK WEEK- 16th March
Year 3 made their own books out of old cereal packets!’ We all created our own story and then designed a front cover which had to be bright, colourful and appealing to the reader!’ Isabella .
‘The blurb needed to be short enough to fit onto the back of the cereal box but be informative and descriptive.’ Charlotte.
‘We lined the boxes with paper and stacked them so that they looked like a library of new books. I think that we have a class of future authors!’ Miss Isaac
Little extras over the Year…
In Year 3 we aim to give the children an all round education. This includes activities such as baking cakes and growing plants. We also had a spring sale which was run completely independently by the children, who sold books, games and cakes.
ANCIENT GREEK DAY- 22nd May
The Year 3 parents joined us for the afternoon session and some of the brave ones dressed up in traditional costume!
The Freshwater Theatre Company gave an outstanding performance in our school garden. We all had to help a modern day time traveller solve puzzles and quizzes on Ancient Greece. The show was extremely interactive, educational and very enjoyable.
We ended the school year with a trip to the ‘Tate Modern’ and an afternoon tea party during the final week of term.’ It has been a fantastic year and I can not believe how quickly it has gone, which just shows how busy we have been and how much fun we have all had.’
