Netball
Our performance on the netball court continues to improve both at the defending and attacking ends of the court. Teams from Year 5 through to Year 10 have been involved in some exciting matches against local schools with Year 8 proving to be the most successful team overall. Their individual skill level and ability to work as a team contributed to their victories over St. Catherine’s (10 – 1), Ibstock (15 – 1) and Wimbledon High (15 – 3). Congratulations to the whole team on a great season and we hope they are able to repeat these successes next year.
Other notable victories where achieved by Year 5 who in their first season playing competitive matches managing to beat both The Ursuline (4 -2) and Ibstock (9 – 2).

With regular training and a committed group of girls attending the extra curricular clubs, matches this season proved to be both exciting and successful. A lot of the teams were made up of a combination of year groups. Our most successful fixture was against St. Catherine’s; Year 7/8 in a very closely fought match eventually managed to defeat them 1-0, whilst Year 5/6 and the Year 8 team won more convincingly with 3-0 victories. The Year 5 team later in the season also went on to defeat The Study 2-1 and The Ursuline 3 -1.
Although all the teams produced excellent performances throughout the hockey season special mention should go to Amber (Yr 8), Alex (Yr 8), Isobel (Yr 6) and Meg (Yr 5) whose individual contribution to their matches really helped to secure our success on the pitch.
Despite a short and busy Summer term the Year 10 team produced an excellent performance at the annual rounders tournament hosted by Ibstock this year. Their team striking and fielding skills were consistent throughout the afternoon and their final placing in the tournament was a well deserved 2nd. Special mention should go to Roxane for her outstanding fielding and Amy for her all round performance throughout the afternoon.
The athletics season consisted of three notable events this year. The senior girls competed at the Emanuel Athletics Carnival on the 13th May. Rebecca (Yr 8) came 1st in her 100m heat and then went on to finish in 1st place in the final. Alexandra (Yr 9) competed in the 800m and overcame an extremely competitive field to finish comfortably in 1st place. Individual mention should also go to Anna (Yr 8) who finished 2nd place in the Long Jump and Patrice (Yr 10) who also finished 2nd place in Shot Putt.
For the juniors the annual Small Schools Track Championships in June also produced a number of excellent individual results. Charlotte (Yr 3) came 2nd in the 75 metres and Jadene (Yr 3) finished 2nd in the 150 metres. All Putney Park students performed well throughout the afternoon and performed extremely well in the first competitive athletics event that some of the students had participated in.
Only days later, many of the same junior athletes went on to take part in a fixture against The Ursuline and The Unicorn schools. At this event we experienced even greater success with 1st place awarded to Charlotte (Yr 3), Jadene (Yr 3), Anastasia (Yr 4), Meg (Yr 5), Olivia (Yr 6) and Sophie (Yr 6).
The competitive Physical Education calendar was brought to a close with the Putney Park sports day at the Bank of England. This year the weather was in our favour. The morning was a great success for pupils in both houses and the final result being decided with only 55 points between Emerald the winners and Sapphire in 2nd place reflects the high level of competition between the pupils. With so many outstanding performances and a number of new sports day records being set it is always difficult to mention individuals, however Jadene (Yr 3) broke three track records this year which have stood since 2006 in the 50m, 80m and the 150m. Also Rebecca (Yr 8) broke both the 100m and 200m sports day records and set times which will be difficult in the future for Year 8 students to beat.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the girls who have committed their time to extra curricular clubs and teams this year and in particular to the students who are moving on to new schools, your contribution will be sadly missed. A huge thank you must also go to Mrs Haynes, Mrs Huckin and Mrs McNally for their continuing support and hard work within the department to provide such an excellent level of expertise and support both inside and outside of the curriculum
