In the Autumn term we went for a nature walk in the local area to collect leaves, seeds and conkers. We also had a visit from Mrs Seth who came in to tell us all about how Diwali is celebrated. We ended the term with a trip to Bocketts Farm to meet Father Christmas and our Christmas concert which was shared with Year One.
In the Spring term we covered the topic of “Transport” and had a fantastic trip to Brooklands Motor Museum. Whilst there we had a look around Concorde, had a trip on a Route Master bus and some of the children braved a turn on a Penny Farthing bicycle!
We had a visit by Miss Lee who told us all about Chinese New Year and how her family celebrate.
As part of our “Pets” topic we were lucky enough to be invited to Stag Lodge Stables where we met several ponies and even groomed them! We also went to “Pets At Home” and bought some class fish. We also had visitors from Battersea Dog’s Home and the Mounted Police.
In the Summer term our topic was “Under the Sea” and we learnt about lots of weird and wonderful sea creatures. We had a visit from Aga of Dean City Farm to deliver some chickens’ eggs which we carefully looked after in an incubator until they hatched!
Other visitors included Mrs Dimond-Brown to talk about the Finnish May Day holiday, Joshan’s grandfather came in to tell us about Sikh faith and customs, Mrs Hanton came in to tell us about New Zealand day and Mrs Anderson came in on Australia day. Many thanks to all the parents who came in as this really helps the children to become aware of faiths, festivals and customs.
Our year culminated in our excellent summer concert based around ‘Top of the pops’ complete with The Village People, The Spice Girls, Abba, The Beatles and Girls Aloud!
