2009 Magazine Report – Art Department

The academic year began with a visit by Year 6 to Somerset House and the Courtauld Institute on the 10th of September 2008 to see the landscapes of Paul Cezanne. While there we saw many examples of his work and then listened to a lecture on the style of the Impressionist artists looking closely at Manet’s technique... continued below.

In February Year 10 and 11 had an active morning covering the collections at The National Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum in support of their GCSE studies. The theme for this year’s examination was ‘I, me and mine’ which the girls found more inspiring than previous titles.

In May Years 8 and 9 visited the Victoria and Albert Museum to help them prepare for their end of year exam. The subject was clothing with the emphasis on headgear and the Stephen Jones exhibition,’ An anthology of Hats’ gave an opportunity for observing just how imaginative designers can be with paper and plastic. Some of the pupils imaginative results back at school from recycled items can be seen in the photographs of the results of their timed test.
