Reception

Having been recognised as ‘outstanding’ in their most recent ISI inspection, our Early Years team continue to provide an exciting and stimulating setting.  Pupils are encouraged to explore the indoor and outdoor learning environments and many opportunities for child initiated learning are provided.  Knowledge and skills are introduced and practiced through a variety of interactive means including the use of technology, games, role play and practical activities.

Both Reception classes have experienced assistants and classes are kept small, allowing teachers to spend time supporting individuals or small groups of pupils.  The staff make every effort to create a kind, nurturing environment where both girls and boys quickly settle and begin to develop independence skills and confidence.

Pupils are introduced to the school reading scheme as they become ready and are supported individually.  A formal handwriting programme follows sensory and whole body pre-writing experiences.  Mathematical understanding is established through practical and written activities.

Reception pupils enjoy topic related trips and off site learning experiences regularly.  As in the rest of the Lower School, pupils receive weekly lessons in French, Music, ICT, Swimming and Games taught by specialist teachers.

Reception Pupils have access to their own playground with climbing apparatus, tricycles, role play spaces and sensory play equipment which are used throughout the day.
