Science

From Year 2, Science is taught by specialist science teachers.  Having specialist teachers and laboratories allows the subject to be taught to a very high standard and pupils' experimental skills and techniques to be developed.  The science department is able to ensure continuous improvement as staff monitor the progress of pupils through the Key Stages.  From year 5 onwards the sciences are taught separately which allows each specialist teacher to emphasize the importance and differences in the 3 separate disciplines (Biology, Chemistry and Physics).

Modern Foreign Languages

French and Spanish are two popular subjects.  Pupils enjoy being taught using lively audio visual methods with interactive activities and songs.  Pupils are taught French from reception to Year 2 , then French and Spanish from Year 3.  In the Lower School, pupils follow “ Early Start 1 and 2 “ and “Rigolo”  in French  and Skoldo in Spanish. All resources are supplemented by Power Point Presentations, together with plenty of Whiteboard interactive activities and songs relevant to each topic.

Physical Education

The function of the Physical Education Department at Putney Park is to provide a structured and educationally balanced curriculum that will develop a wide range of physical, personal, social and learning skills.  Work within the department is designed to complement, contribute to and support the general aims of the school.  The Physical Education curriculum offers a comprehensive range of experiences to meet the needs of individual students with every pupil being encouraged to participate.

Pupils in Reception and Year 1 are taught within the school grounds.  From Year 2, pupils are taken to The Bank of England Sports Ground for their lessons.

The curriculum for key stage one comprises of gymnastics, dance, racket skills, ball skills, football, rugby, hockey, short tennis, athletics, kwik cricket and swimming (at Putney Leisure Centre).

The curriculum for key stage two includes gymnastics, dance, hockey, netball, rugby, football, short tennis, tennis, badminton, racketball, athletics, rounders, fitness and swimming (at Putney Leisure Centre).
