Upper school - Extracurricular Activities

Upper School pupils use the sports facilities at the Bank of England Sports Ground and are transported there by coach. Athletics, badminton, cricket, football, hockey, netball, rounders, rowing, tag rugby, squash, tennis and dance are some of the sports taught to the different age groups. For Years 10 and 11 GCSE PE is offered, along with fitness and rowing at Barn Elms for Year 11.
There are regular sporting fixtures with local schools and our girls participate in some Independent Schools Association National Events. The PE department offers a range of extra-curricular clubs and practices to prepare pupils for fixtures. Pupils are encouraged to join whichever clubs are appropriate to their year. Inter-house matches are held throughout the year.
Music has a strong tradition at Putney Park. Concerts, plays and musicals are performed regularly. Our choirs perform in national events, such as Music for Youth at the Royal Festival Hall. Trained musicians teach individual instrumental lessons. Lessons in piano, recorder, flute, violin, guitar, viola, oboe and singing are all available.
Trips in the Upper School are usually subject based. The English and Drama Departments take pupils to the theatre to see appropriate productions. The History Department uses museums, cathedrals and sites of historical interest, where workshops help enhance the curriculum. Fieldwork is an important part of the Geography curriculum. The Art Department visit art galleries and exhibitions. The French and Spanish Departments go to France and Spain as an integral part of their courses. In addition there is an annual ski trip.
