Upper School - Physical Education

The function of the Physical Education Department at Putney Park is to provide a structured and educationally balanced curriculum that will develop a wide range of physical, personal, social and learning skills.
Work within the department is designed to complement, contribute to and support the general aims of the school.
The Physical Education curriculum offers a comprehensive range of experiences to meet the needs of individual students. Everyone is encouraged to participate, irrespective of their ability, and develop a positive attitude towards active involvement as performers, observers and officials.
Extra curricular activities are encouraged so each child has the opportunity to exercise in their own time as well as to develop individual and team skills. At present the students compete in Athletics, Hockey, Netball and Rounders. In addition to these, the department also offers clubs in badminton, dance and football.
All Upper School pupils are taken to The Bank of England Sports Ground for their lessons. At key stages three and four students have the opportunity to experience gymnastics, dance, hockey, netball, rugby, football, short tennis, tennis, badminton, racketball, athletics, rounders, fitness and swimming (at Putney Leisure Centre). Addition to these activities, rowing and fitness at a local gym are introduced for Year 11 pupils. Physical Education is also offered as a GCSE subject following the EDEXCEL syllabus.
