Year 2

Year 2 pupils enjoy a rich and varied curriculum with opportunities for collaborative learning and problem solving.  Termly topics include: ‘Famous People in History’, ‘Africa’ and ‘The Victorians’.  In the past pupils have visited Hampton Court Palace, The London Zoo and enjoyed hands-on workshops at Gunnersbury Park Museum.  The ‘Victorian Day’, when pupils experience a first-hand taste of school life in Victorian times, is always a highlight of the Summer Term.

Teachers are aware of the differing needs of pupils and lessons are prepared appropriately.  Activities are differentiated so that all pupils are able to grow in confidence and enjoy success.  Pupils are set according to ability for Mathematics lessons.

Many Year 2 pupils, particularly amongst the boys, will be sitting entrance exams for future schools early in the year.  For this reason, the prepping process begun towards the end of Year 1 continues more vigorously in Year 2.  Extra classes, practise exams and mock interviews are offered.  Putney Park School has a history of success in prepping pupils, with boys moving on to such schools as St Paul’s; Kings College Wimbledon; Shrewsbury House and Latymer and girls to Putney High School, Surbiton High School, Bute House, and Latymer.

Year 2 pupils are taught weekly lessons of Science, French, Music, ICT, Swimming and Games taught by specialist teachers.   All pupils in the Lower School participate in termly class assemblies and Christmas and Summer musical productions.
