Year 3

Although most boys tend to move on to new schools at the end of Year 2, Putney Park caters for both boys and girls in Year 3. Some parents prefer their children to sit entrance exams for future schools at age 8 so for these pupils, the prepping process continues into Year 3.
Pupils in Year 3 enjoy a creative curriculum taught by an increasing number of specialist teachers. The nearby Bank of England sports grounds are used for PE lessons and pupils from Year 3 up can be chosen to represent the school in swimming, netball and athletics.
Pupils benefit from the Upper School facilities for such lessons as Science and Drama. In addition to French, which is taught from reception, pupils are taught Spanish from Year 3. Learning activities are differentiated appropriately in all areas of the curriculum allowing each pupil to enjoy success as he or she develops.
Off-site learning experiences and trips to museums, galleries and local places of interest support the classroom based learning. Independent learning is encouraged at this stage, through an individual pupil project which is worked on at school and at home. Topic related ‘special’ days are a highlight. In order to bring their topic of ‘Egypt’ to life, Year 3 pupils come to school dressed as Ancient Egyptians for a day.
Pupils are offered private musical instrument lessons and participate each term in class assemblies. Christmas and Summer musical concerts allow each pupil to experience performing to an audience.
