Year 4

From Year 4 Putney Park caters for girls only.  During this year the individual strengths and identities of the girls are nurtured and developed.    Girls are are encouraged to reflect on the learning process, helping them to make choices motivated by their own desire to achieve.  Independent learning is supported and pupils have the opportunity to work on a project based on a topic of their own choice.

Collaborative skills are also valued, and the girls frequently work together on learning tasks.  The small class size allows active participation in such activities as planning class assemblies together.  Year 4 girls are paired with Year 1 pupils for fortnightly shared reading sessions.  These sessions offer the Year 4 pupils responsibility and the opportunity to demonstrate good reading models, whilst the younger pupils enjoy the individual attention of an older peer.

Topics are taught creatively, often linking different areas of the curriculum.  Year 4 pupils spend time preparing for their ‘Roman day’ by hand sewing their own Roman clothes and preparing foods to be eaten on the day.
